From the wee hours of the morning of June 9, the 2011 Kiddush Cup promised to be a magical day. <\/span>Never before in the 12 years of the Cup\u2019s history has a day started with a weather forecast that did not include rain for at least a part of the tournament. <\/span>And as if Ryan were with us once again, the rain that did come pouring down missed us, and the day was just as he would have loved it – sunny, hot and hotter!<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n This year\u2019s playing field of 124 golfers was our largest ever. <\/span>We are so grateful for all who attended and so generously contributed to the charities our tournament benefits. <\/span>This year\u2019s Kiddush Cup raised almost $20,000; Beth Israel will be donating $10,000 of the proceeds to Ryan\u2019s Circle of Giving (RCG). <\/span>RCG donates 100% of its yearly donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, The Yale Cancer Center\u2019s Thoracic Oncology Program, and scholarships devoted to enabling a disadvantaged Hartford city youth to realize their dreams of playing hockey and sending a deserving high school student to Paraguay to perform community service in that country\u2019s poorest region. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n Our Kiddush Cup proceeds<\/span> will reach <\/span>far and wide!<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n During a special after-dinner event, we heard the premier of a beautiful and moving song created by Broadway-composer David Friedman called Ryan\u2019s Circle of Giving. <\/span>David captured Ryan beautifully, in both heart and spirit and it was a truly heartwarming reminder of the reasons we have been gathering for this tournament.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n No Kiddush Cup would be complete without our M.C. and great friend, Fox61 sports broadcaster, Rich Cappola. <\/span>We are grateful for his continued support!<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n A special thanks to Wynn Schoolnik, whose determination and tenacity are unparalleled! <\/span>Every golf tournament should be as lucky as we are to have someone like him on their team. <\/span>Thank you, Wynn!<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n Once again, we thank our incredible Chairs:<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span> <\/span>Sandy Balayan <\/span><\/span><\/strong>Volunteer <\/span>Chair<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span> <\/span> <\/span>Wynn Schoolnik<\/span><\/strong> <\/span>Gift Chair<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span> <\/span> <\/span>Arlene O\u2019Tell <\/span><\/strong> <\/span>Financial Chair<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span> <\/span>Pat Gettner<\/span><\/strong> <\/span>Decorations Chair<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n And ALL of our wonderful volunteers:<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span> <\/span>Elise Schoolnik, <\/span> (the late) <\/span>Dave Solomon, <\/span> Mindy Schwartz, <\/span>Nancy Huber, <\/span> <\/span>Kent Billings, <\/span> <\/span>Rae-Ann Allen, <\/span> <\/span> <\/span> <\/span>Lynne Rappoport, <\/span>Lori Silkoff, <\/span> <\/span> <\/span>Sally Smirnoff, <\/span>Henni Stolzman, <\/span> <\/span>Gary Spelucin, <\/span> <\/span> <\/span>Phyllis Dober, <\/span>Mimi Block, <\/span> <\/span>Alyse Schwartz, <\/span> <\/span> <\/span>Joe Fasulo, <\/span> <\/span>Beryl Bloch, <\/span>Julie Rappoport, <\/span>Matthew Rappoport, <\/span> Daniel Rappoport<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n <\/span> <\/span> <\/span> <\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Each and every one of these great people helped to make the day run as smoothly as possible.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n Plans for next year\u2019s tournament<\/strong> are already underway, and we have secured a date at Traditions \u2013 so please mark your calendars today \u2013 <\/span>for <\/span><\/strong>Thursday, June 14th, 2012<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n See you then – for another great day!<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n ADDENDUM<\/span><\/em>: <\/span>Tragically, our dear friend and Beth Israel member, Dave Solomon, died on August 6th<\/sup>. <\/span>Each year, Dave worked hard on our Kiddush Cup brochure, and this year was no exception. <\/span>By all accounts, it was his greatest effort and we had planned on this year\u2019s cover being the prototype for all future brochures. <\/span>In true Dave form, we were not \u201callowed\u201d to thank him publicly for the many hours he put into volunteering for the Cup – we want to thank him now. <\/span>He deserves our thanks and so much more.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n To say that Dave will be missed is an understatement. <\/span>Our hearts go out to Judy and their daughters, Lisa and Abbey<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n From the wee hours of the morning of June 9, the 2011 Kiddush Cup promised to be a magical day.
